ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Greetings from the Director, Jeanette Doina
Welcome to the Human Development Lab School! Parents often remark that we are the best kept secret in town! Our program has a long history and affiliation with the campus and our school is currently in the College of Education in the Department of Educational Psychology. We are fortunate to be located on the main campus where many resources are readily available to support our work and to allow us to provide outstanding service to both the university and greater Houston community. Our program is a model preschool program based on the work of Jean Piaget. We are a teacher training site and a research site for students, faculty and staff of the university. We also serve as a model to the many early childhood programs in the city offering consultations and trainings to further enhance their understanding of the most pressing early childhood questions.
We take development as our aim and are able to provide a wonderful nurturing program where children are able to participate in an active hands-on learning environment where the ideas and thoughts of children are valued. Children’s ideas form the basis for our emergent style of curriculum. We believe that children construct their knowledge and our job is to facilitate the learning process by creating a safe and interesting environment where they can experiment and figure out their place in the world. On any given day, you might find a child pouring and catching with a variety of substances, experimenting with a pendulum, creating shadows, snuggling up with a cuddly bear reading a book or creating a masterpiece in the messy center!
I would love to share our school with you! Family group tours are scheduled twice a month. Please contact 713-743-4130 for upcoming tours. Also an informational parent packet can be mailed to your home along with the application form. We would be happy to drop this packet in the mail to any interested family.
We look forward to hearing from you soon. Have a peaceful and happy day! |
