IT Program Area Competencies
Graduates should develop an extensive knowledge of the technologies of instruction as well as relevant scholarly and professional skills. All courses in the program are aligned with the following IT Program Competencies:
- Proficient use of hardware and software tools, from basic to more advanced features, including a wide variety of productivity, authoring, multimedia, graphic, Web, and peripheral tools.
- Theories, methodologies, strategies, and practices of learning specific to media-assisted and media-based instruction, including proficiency in planning, facilitating, and assessing a variety of learner-centered opportunities.
- Understanding of instructional design and development theories, models, and processes.
- Creation of effective electronic learning materials employing appropriate theories and tools to address such facets as design, layout, navigation, text, and multimedia.
- The technical knowledge needed to assess, select, and integrate technology appropriately into specific educational and business contexts.
- Ability to use technology to communicate with broad audiences for a variety of purposes and to locate necessary information through multiple sources.
- Ability to effectively work, problem-solve, and research through social interactions in diverse team environments.
- Hardware and software selection, installation, and maintenance, file and lab management, and network operations.
- Fluency with technology planning and policy making, staff development, project and information management, educational change, diffusion of technological innovations, vision of future applications, articulate communication, and advocacy of learning with technology.
- Understanding of the social implications of technology and ability to promote ethical and responsible technology use.
