QUEST 1 Field Experiences
During QUEST 1, you will spend 20 hours per semester in schools and other community locations observing and practice teaching (for 3 semesters for EC-6 candidates for a total of 60 hours; and for 2 semesters for 4-12 and EC-12 for a total of 40 hours). Each 20-hour field experience is tied to one of the QUEST 1 courses, and each is designed with a different pedagogical and grade level focus to give you experience at various levels within your certification range. The experiences must be taken non-concurrently in successive semesters.
Those with daytime employment that is flexible enough to allow for 20 hours of leave over the course of a semester (e.g., 3 full days or 5 half-days during the semester) may find that they can continue their daytime employment during QUEST 1. Those with inflexible daytime work arrangements will find difficulty completing the QUEST 1 field experience requirements, as well as field requirements in the remainder of the program.
If you find yourself in extenuating circumstances that prevent you from completing QUEST 1 field experience requirements, you may qualify for a one-semester-only alternative arrangement that allows you to satisfy field experiences through another means while you make the necessary employment arrangements to allow for future daytime flexibility. Current work experience in a school setting with the age children for which you will be certified may qualify for partial "alternative" field experience credit provided that experience is documented and approved prior to each semester.
