Minor in Education

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers this degree program.

Is this program for me?

The Minor in Education is designed for students who would like to be certified to teach in high school settings.  It incorporates teacher certification through the UH Teacher Education Program.  Students interested in Math and Science certification will do so through the teachHOUSTON program.  If you would like to pursue teaching certification at the Secondary level (8th -12th grade) or in Art or Music, you must major in the subject that you wish to teach.  These students should begin their process by seeing the advisor in the department of their specific major to learn more about requirements.  Then to apply for this minor, make an appointment with the Teacher Education Undergraduate Advisor.

What will I learn?

Our future teachers learn to teach with the latest research-based strategies and modern technologies from a world-class faculty.  Students participate in continued field experiences, doing the real work of teachers in real schools.  The urban setting encourages students to value diversity, and meeting the needs of increasingly diverse classrooms is one of the major goals of the program.

Since degree plans change periodically, students will follow the degree plan that is in place at the time in which they complete an official, signed degree plan.  Following are the most current sample degree plan for a Minor in Education:
