Many experienced art teachers are able to evaluate consistently, fairly,
and informatively without the aid of grading scales such as those that follow.
These are provided as another resource, for studio teachers to use, adapt,
or modify to fit their own curricular needs.

"Grading Procedures"Example:

Sketchbooks are due at the beginning of class on the assigned day. (Sometimes you can get them graded during the class!)
The minimum time investment expected is one hour.
Sketchbooks are evaluated with the chart which follows. Categories are adjusted each week to match the learning objective in the assignment.
Late sketchbooks are accepted on Thursdays (10 points off), on Mondays (30 points off), and on Tuesdays (40 points off). Late work is scored zero on Wednesday. Sketchbooks are not kept for grading on Fridays.
When a student is absent on the grading day, the sketchbook is due the first day back. That is the only grace day. If the assignment is not available on the first day back, all late grades apply on the later days.

Grading Chart #1:
Each of five categories is worth up to 20 points.
The categories are added together to reach a total score.
Grading scales like these allow grading on an individual basis,
and at each student's own level and progression. Any student can excel.
