Carrie Markello, Clinical Instructor
Originally from Buffalo, New York, Carrie Markello has lived in Texas for over twenty years. She completed a M.A. in Speech Pathology from Louisiana State University in 1981 and a B.S. in Speech Pathology from the State University college of New York at Geneseo. She worked as a public school speech pathologist in rural Virginia prior to entering graduate school and in Fort Bend Independent School District after graduate school. After moving to Dallas, Ms. Markello began developing and pursuing her artistic interests while raising three children. In 1992 she re-entered the work force part time; teaching art in summer and continuing education programs. In 1996, she worked as the Education Coordinator for Arlington Museum of Art. She was responsible for planning and directing all children’s art activities which included such programs as Summer Art Camp, Art Around the Corner, Saturdays at the Museum, and Books and Art. In 1998, she was promoted to Curator of Art Education. After returning to Houston in 2000, Ms. Markello worked for Blaffer Gallery at the University of Houston as the Mobile Art Quest Coordinator for. In this position, she coordinated the Mobile Art Quest visits to elementary schools in the Houston Independent School District and to eight other districts surrounding Houston. Ms. Markello resigned her position at Blaffer Gallery in order to pursue an Ed.D. in art education as a Houston Endowment Fellow. In addition, she has been creating and exhibiting mixed media artwork for the past fifteen years.
