week 3 topics

I hope everyone has a good week. I would like to make two notes.

  1. Because the CITE Lab had problems Tuesday, Tuesday's class has until midnight Thursday for this week's assignments.

  2. Be sure to read all the information carefully on this page and to view Week 3 Instructions. I have had emails from several students asking basic questions that are answered on this page and in the video. If you read the information and watch the videos but still have questions, please do ask for help. I am here to assist you (virtually, at the moment).    :)

  • Organizer for technology supported teaching and learning [download the diagram in PDF]

  • Online Resource Collection (Due Feb 3, 5)

  • Posting discussions in wikispaces

  • Note: I should have everyone's best email address for contact, portfolio URL, and LiveJournal user name Unless I ask that information or assignments be emailed to me, there is no need to send me anything. I will access Wikispaces, LiveJournal, and your portfolio to grade assignments that are to be posted there.

  • Remember: We have no face-to-face class this week, but I will check my email daily in case you have questions.

do for this week

  1. Last week you were asked to read Blog Basics. After reading Blog Basics and  NETS Essential Conditions, and after viewing No Gamer Left Behind, respond to the following question in Wikispaces (click on the page for your class day): "What questions and/or concerns would you have about using blogs and video games to address learning objectives or standards in your targeted content area?" Respond to at least two other learners in the forum. (Be sure to offer meaningful feedback.) Due on Feb 10, 12.

  2. Review 2-3 lesson plan examples from each of the following sites. Find two good lesson plans for your targeted content area and grade level that you would use as is or with modifications. (At least one of the two must be technology-rich.) Add them with detailed annotations to your Online Resource Collection. (Due Feb 3, 5)
    -
    Generic: http://www.lessonplanspage.com/
    - Technology-rich:
    http://cnets.iste.org/search/s_search.html

    - or use the Marco polo Teacher Site

  3. Complete your Online Resource Collection and provide a link to it on your CUIN 3112 portfolio page, due Feb 3, 5. See example. (My resources are related to educational technology because that is my field. Yours should be related to your content area.) The two lesson plans added to your collection from last week count as part of the 10 required resources. (See tutorials at the bottom of this page.)

  4. Identify 4 content TEKS you will use this semester to develop your technology-enhanced supports (for this purpose, one individual TEKS equals the smallest level of information, usually a number and letter, so 5A for example.) Know that later you may change your mind about these TEKS as you find lesson plans! State these 4 TEKS in your LiveJournal posting and label the posting "Content TEKS for Tech Lesson Support Projects." (Do not select technology TEKS.) Be sure to explain in your own words what each TEKS is. (Due Feb 3, 5)

  5. Begin working on your Website Support, due Feb 10, 12. See examples. Select an educational site and provide instructions for your students on what they will do when they access that site. Are they to read information on that site to answer questions? Are they to complete an activity? What kind of feedback will you receive from the students to show that they completed the assignment? Will they have an outline or chart to complete or written questions to answer? Will they raise their hand to let you see their results, or will they print out the results? (The educational site should not be a WebQuest. It also should not be a site where students simply print out worksheets or check answers to a homework assignment. Students should be engaged, somehow. Screen shots in the instructions are often helpful to students.)

Resources

  1. View the sample Quest 4-8 Portfolio Example Layout. (You may have a different set-up from CUIN 3111, which is fine.)

    1. Notice the link for Quest 2 under the heading "Working Portfolio."

    2. Click on "Quest 2" and see the link to CUIN 3112.

    3. Click on "CUIN 3112." See the links for the products you will create for this course. The grayed-out text tells you what kind of information to supply. The blue links would lead the viewer straight to your product. The link to the product is what needs to be provided for your peers through email. (Peer groups will be assigned next week.)

  2. Linking an external site to a web page using NVU.
  3. Using WebDAV and setting up Homepage folders (7 minutes)
  4. Linking portfolio files in NVU
