About Adobe Acrobat Reader & Web Browser Plug-In

Many of the documents on this website are available in Portable Document Format (PDF). PDF documents maintain the same look and layout of the original paper publication, and can be viewed on any type of computer -- Macintosh, Windows, or UNIX -- with the platform-appropriate viewer, called the Acrobat Reader, a freely distributable viewer from Adobe. The current version of this utility is Acrobat Reader 3.01.

Whenever you see this icon, it means that that document is in PDF format. Acrobat Reader must be installed on your computer in order to read and print the material.

Some assignments include PDF documents that have forms that allow you to fill in the blanks and then save and print the material.

There are two ways to view PDF files:

  • PDF Viewer, a Web browser plug-in. Once installed, this PDF Viewer facilitates the viewing and printing of any PDF file from within a web browser window, simply by clicking on a weblink to any PDF document.
  • If the PDF Viewer is not installed on your hard drive, then clicking a weblink to a PDF document will simply download the file to your local hard drive. The downloaded PDF may then be opened with an Acrobat Reader.

Click the icon below to download the installer to your computer. Once downloaded to your hard drive, double-click on the installer icon. After the Acrobat Reader and Plug-in have been installed, you may delete the original installer file.
