Topic: Food chasing? Food chain!!
Instructional Objectives:
The learners will be able to recognize fundamental relationship among animals, insects, and plants that have been introduced in this game. Besides, they will also attain basic knowledge of biology in ecosystem.
Learners:
This game is designed for fourth grade students who already have some of basic biological knowledge such as evolution theory of Darwinism and natural selection. These understandings be helpful for children to learn this game.
Description/Summary of the Lesson:
Biology has been thought an environmental science of human beings. It draws us into the microscopic world of the fundamental units as of life as known as cells, and into the macrocosm of the creatures that make up of the whole ecosystem. An ecosystem Pei consists of all organisms in a given area and it is a community in which allows these organisms interact with each other.
Food chains, the basic unit in the ecosystem, it explains the link around creatures will in pictures that show the relationships between them, can be best designed as a learning instrument in biology.
Rationale:
In this class, we have been through some of the games and simulations, and also we discussed some of the instructional theories for constructing and designing a better learning environment to children. Basically, we all agree that using computers as a learning tool is more appropriate than using blackboards.
My idea was coming from the "Mystery Number" that we had completed in Authorware. Learners can make choices to play a role as an animal or an insect that it is created in "food chains" games. They may put themselves into different situation and confront with other species, then they may get different result in the end and to see if they can survive or become other species' food.
Curriculum Integration Recommendations:
Children can learn knowledge of biology in many ways: experiment, graphics, dissection, and so forth. I think this game may help students to learn this subject with fun and imagination when they are thinking themselves as animals and searching for foods.
This game is supposed to be a supplemental material when teaching children biology. Before playing this game, the teacher had better tell students some of biological terms related to food chains, such as producers, consumers, prey, and predator. That may help students to start playing this game and with a better comprehension.
