Advisors

Attention Undergraduate Students:
The College of Education is now using the UH PeopleSoft Appointment System

During the first two weeks of the Fall & Spring Semesters we will have walk-ins only.
Monday - Thursday: 9am-3pm
Friday: 9am-12pm

To schedule an advising appointment:

  • Go to PeopleSoft (MyUH) my.uh.edu
  • Select the Advising Tab
  • Select Appointment with Advisor
Note: Students returning from suspension should contact their advisor by email to set an appointment (see list below)

The day of your appointment:

  • Please arrive at least five minutes early for check–in and provide us with your PeopleSoft ID#  at the front desk
  • Have your questions written in advance to ask your advisor
  • Bring a copy of your Degree Plan Report (if necessary), petitions or any other documentation to ensure that you have a successful advising experience

Please remember:

  • Scheduled appointments are best for degree planning or complex individual situations.
  • Walk-in Days are better suited for shorter, simpler needs such as quick questions, petition drop off, etc.
  • If you need assistance that does not require a face-to-face meeting, please email you advisor and he/she will respond as soon as possible.
  • Advising holds are place on all COE students’ accounts every Fall and Spring requiring you to meet with an advisor each semester. It is suggested that you meet with your advisor as early as possible to avoid long wait times.
  • Non-peak times are during months of September/October and February/March
  • Peak Times are November-January and early May throughout the Summer
  • In the event that you must cancel your advising appointment please do so within 24 hours by canceling your appointment in People Soft or by emailing/calling your advisor. This will allow other students to schedule an appointment in that open time slot.
  • You are considered late if you arrive ten minutes past  your scheduled appointment time. Unfortunately you will not be able to be seen and will have to reschedule your appointment.

All our undergraduate advisors are located in the Office of Undergraduate Studies, 160 Farish Hall
Front desk phone: (713) 743-5000

Advising is available for prospective and current students at the undergraduate level and PB/graduate students seeking initial teacher certification. We suggest that prospective students (not enrolled in the university), visit us during walk-in hours.  Prospective graduate students should visit an admissions advisor within our college.  Once admitted, graduate students should seek advising from their designated faculty advisor.

You must also successfully complete the Teacher Education Program. Please see the departmental advisor for undergraduate requirements.
