College of Education Graduation

Commencement is the  ceremony that acknowledges publicly the awarding of a degree. The College of Education has two commencement ceremonies:

  • one at the end of the Fall semester

  • one at the end of the Spring semester

Students graduating in the Summer may participate in the Fall ceremony following their summer completion.  The commencement ceremony usually lasts about 2 ½ hours.

Dean Wimpelberg

Dean’s Letter to Students

Dear Soon-To-Be Graduate,

Hearty congratulations on your upcoming graduation!

Arrival:

Graduating students should arrive at the Athletics and Alumni Center – enter doors on Cullen Blvd. The processional will form on the Basketball court in Yeoman Field House.  Your family and friends should proceed directly to Hofheinz Pavilion.

RSVP

It will help us a great deal if you tell us if you're participating in the Commencement ceremony. Please R.S.V.P online using our Commencement RSVP Form.  *It is very important that you include phonetic or other type of assistance with the correct pronunciation of your name.

Guests

You can invite as many guests as you like.  Given the limited number of seats in Hofheinz Pavilion seating will be on a FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS. Please advise all guests that wish to attend your ceremony to arrive ON-TIME.  Doors will open one hour prior to start of ceremony.  Security will enforce release of saved seats 15 minutes prior to ceremony start.  There will be overflow seating with a large screen in a nearby building.

Cap and Gown, Printed Announcements

You should make arrangements with the Bookstore in the University Center for your cap and gown and printed commencement announcements and invitations.

The UH Bookstore will hold a Graduation Fair where Reps will be available to assist in ordering caps, gowns and hoods, as well as announcements and invitations, UH rings, and diploma frames.  Information about joining the Houston Alumni Organization will also be available.

Graduation Fair at the UH Bookstore
Date: February 28 to March 2
Time: 9am - 4pm

If you have any questions regarding these items, please call the Bookstore directly at (713) 748-0923 or visit their website at http://bncollege.com. Remember, you are responsible for picking up and dropping off your rented cap and gown. The bookstore will have drop off stations for rentals on the concourse of Hofheinz Pavilion and in Yeoman Field House after our ceremony.

Again, congratulations from Your College of Education!

We look forward to seeing you at Commencement on Friday, May 11th.

Sincerely,

Dean Robert H. McPherson Ph.D.
