Research Interests:

Dr. Frederick G. Lopez is a Professor in the Counseling Psychology Program. He teaches the doctoral-level proseminar, career development, and advanced counseling theories courses for the Program.

His research interests center around the study of family and other close relationships and their contributions to personality development and adjustment, particularly during late adolescence and young adulthood. He has also conducted research on the development of mathematics self-efficacy among high school and college students. Dr. Lopez is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 17), a former Fulbright Senior Scholar (Portugal), a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Counseling Psychology, and the recipient of the 2004 Outstanding Contribution to Science Award from the Texas Psychological Association and the 2009 Faculty Research Excellence Award from the College of Education. He has also been recognized, in surveys published in The Counseling Psychologist and in the Journal of Counseling & Development, as one of the most cited and productive scholars in counseling psychology.
