Returning alumna lauds faculty mentorship
When Yvonne Harris decided to seek a master's degree in instructional technology, she returned to the UH College of Education . "UH has great professors who really care about and will advocate for their students," Harris said.
Harris, who was named Teacher of the Year in 2007 as Campus Instructional Technologist for Eagle Springs Elementary in Humble ISD, received a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2005.
As an undergraduate, Harris particularly enjoyed her cohorts in the 4-8 math program, and Dr. Susan Williams' mentorship . "We all became pretty close.. She took care of us," Harris explained. Because of this positive experience, Harris recommends that new UH students find a professor in his/her area of interest to act as a mentor.
"Obtaining a master's degree in instructional technology will allow many more opportunities in this emerging field," Harris said. She is enjoying a more personalized graduate experience, which she attributes to smaller classes and the "opportunity to customize my degree plan to my personal goals and aspirations."
