From Dr. Guadarrama,
Coordinator
A Letter to Our Partner Schools
Dear Teachers, Administrators, and
Staff,
On behalf of
our students in the Bilingual Education Program in the
Department of Curriculum and Instruction, I would like to
convey my heartfelt thanks to all of you for your
contributions in assisting them in the completion of their
Practicum requirements this semester. After reading their
notebooks filled with commentaries on their observations and
reflections, I can tell you without any hesitation that
their field experience in your school was a resounding
success. Many students commented that their practicum was a
life-changing experience and thus are so appreciative for
the opportunity to have participated in your school.
On a personal note,
I can’t express enough my gratitude for everything you’ve
done for our students. And, I especially want to let you
know that our students have acknowledged in many ways their
appreciation for the manner in which you welcome them to
your school and assist them in observing the teachers.
In our experiences
as teacher educators, we have learned that in order to
effectively prepare our students for an incredibly
challenging role of bilingual educators, it is imperative
that university teacher education programs and schools work
together as a unit, systematically building upon their
various resources to address common goals, and to realize
the vision for improving the educational experiences for
P-12 students. We are very fortunate to have the
opportunity to work with you in this endeavor.
Of course, we look
forward to our continuing partnership in the years to come.
Please take a few
minutes to view the slide presentations (in the School
Zone section to the right); these were developed by our
students on their school assignments.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE!! WE LOOK
FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AGAIN IN JANUARY.
Bilingual Education and
Second Language Education Programs at the University of
Houston
The preparation, recruitment, and retention of teachers in
bilingual education are a few of the many challenges we
encounter in our programs at the University of Houston’s
College of Education. Our program areas of Bilingual
Education and Second Language Education offer an
undergraduate specialization in the Interdisciplinary
Studies major, a specialization in the Master’s degree and
in the doctorate, all from the Department of Curriculum and
Instruction. .
