Do I still have to take the TASP/THEA test if I was exempt?
Yes. If you are pursuing a teaching certificate, you must take the TASP/THEA test.
Are alternative forms (ex: ASSET, COMPASS, ACCUPLACER, etc.) of TASP/THEA accepted for certification?
No. The TASP/THEA test is the only test accepted for certification.
Is Education a major?
No, it is a College.
Can I receive a Bachelor of Art degree in Interdisciplinary Studies?
No. You can only receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. What undergraduate degree plans are offered through the College of Education ?

What levels of certification are offered for the Interdisciplinary Studies major?
We offer EC-4 (Early Childhood-4) Generalist, Bilingual Generalist, Special Education and 4-8 English/Language Arts and Reading , Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
What is the GPA requirement to be an Interdisciplinary Studies major?
2.50.
Does the Interdisciplinary Studies major require a minor or general electives?
No, a minor is not required nor general electives.
How do I change my major?
By completing a general petition form. The form can be found at the following website address: http://www.uh.edu/enroll/rar/forms.html . Next, return the general petition to your prospective major department.
How can I petition a course I took at another college/university?
You will need to complete a general petition form ( http://www.uh.edu/enroll/rar/forms.html ), attach a course description from the catalog where you completed the class, and attach a copy of your transfer evaluation. Turn the completed general petition form into your major department.
What do I need if I already hold a bachelor's degree and want to be certified as a teacher?
You will need to apply for a certification plan.
What is a certification plan?
A certification plan is a plan that tells you what courses that are required to complete a certain certificate area.
When a certification plan is drawn up, how long is the plan good for?
The certification plan is only good for 3 years.
Do I need to have taken the TASP/THEA to have a certification plan drawn up?
The TASP/THEA scores are not required to have a certification plan drawn up. It will be required when you apply to start any Professional Development courses on your plan. There are no exemptions.
What are the required scores for the TASP/THEA?
The required TASP/THEA scores are Reading 250, Math 230, and Writing 240.
