COE Faculty Members
The COE Research Committee would like to announce the following awards for faculty to apply and/or be nominated. The deadline for submission of these awards is March 14, 2008 before 5 pm. Most award materials should be submitted in electronic version (including signed letters converted to PDF-files) to the chair of the research committee, Dr. Max Kurz (mkurz@uh.edu); selected supporting materials should be submitted in hardcopy to the Executive Associate Dean’s Office, 214 Farish Hall-addressed to the COE Research Committee. A brief outline of each award is provided below:
College of Education – Faculty Distinguished Career Award
This award recognizes a tenured faculty member in the College of Education for significant contributions in scholarship, teaching, service, and/or practice that has had a significant impact on the faculty member’s field. This award represents the highest honor the College of Education can bestow on a faculty member, and thus the criteria are stringent. The nomination process requires nomination by another COE faculty member, nominated faculty member’s full CV, letter of nomination by the nominating COE faculty member, a minimum of two and a maximum of four letters of support from other faculty in the nominee’s field (external and internal), other supporting evidence as necessary, and the application form. The award is $2500 and a plaque.
College of Education – Faculty Research Mentoring Award
This award recognizes a tenure or tenure-track faculty member in the College of Education for mentoring other College of Education or University of Houston faculty (any level) that assisted in enhancing research and scholarship of the mentored faculty member. Mentored faculty should submit the application form to nominate their faculty mentor. Application materials include: full CV of both nominated mentor and nominating mentored faculty; evidence of mentoring (articles, grant proposal, etc); and a nomination letter. The nomination letter should detail specifically how the mentor enhanced research and scholarship, quality and performance of mentoring, extensiveness of mentoring, and any specific outcomes of the mentoring. The award is $2500 and a plaque.
College of Education – Faculty Research Excellence Award
This award recognizes a tenured or tenure-track faculty member in the College of Education for excellence in research and scholarship over the previous 2-year period. Faculty may nominate themselves (or be nominated by other faculty) by completing the application form. Faculty nominating themselves (or nominated by another faculty member) must submit the scholarship/research portion of their Annual Faculty Report (submitted to your department chairs) with supporting evidence. The award is $2500 and a plaque.
College of Education – Graduate Student Research Award
This award recognizes a graduate student (Master or Doctoral level) in the College of Education for excellence in research and scholarship. Interested graduate students and at least one faculty member familiar with the graduate student’s research and scholarship should jointly submit an application. Application materials include: graduate student and faculty full CV; evidence of graduate student’s current research or scholarship (e.g., articles, grant proposal, conference abstract submission, etc); letter of support from the faculty member familiar with the graduate student’s research and scholarship. The letter of support should detail the graduate student’s quality of research and scholarship, extensiveness of research and scholarship, major outcomes from research and scholarship, and impact of the graduate student’s research and scholarship. The award is a plaque.
