Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the requirements for application to the College of Education?
Students are required to meet the general admissions requirements as outlined by the University.
2. What tests do I need to take to apply?
For all undergraduates, simply meeting the general admission and application requirements for the University will get you enrolled. To apply to the Professional Development Sequence program (PUMA/QUEST), you must have taken and passed all portions of the TASP/ THEA, and meet the other requirements.
The College of Education accepts test scores from the GRE (Graduate Record Exam) for applicants to the M.Ed. and Ed.D. programs. Additionally, scores from the MAT (Miller Analogies Test) are accepted for applicants to the M.Ed. program.
3. What scores do I need to make on these tests?
Minimum scores for entry into the University are given with the Freshman Admission Requirements.
Application to the Professional Development Sequence program requires the following test scores along with other requirements:
- Reading - 250
- Math - 230
- Writing - 240
Minimum scores for entry into the College Graduate or Doctorate Programs are as follows:
- Masters - GRE: Verbal & Quantitative 30%, Writing 3.5
- Masters - MAT: 35 Raw Score/ 386 Scaled Score
- Doctoral - GRE ONLY: Verbal & Quantitative 35%, Writing 3.5
4. What if my scores are too low?
The University lists procedures for students falling below their requirements on the Admissions Requirements page.
If your scores fall below the minimum guidelines, please re-take the test.
If your scores are still too low, it is suggested that you contact your Program Area Coordinator, who will assess your situation and determine whether you have any need for special consideration.
5. Are there any additional tests that are required of international students?
Scores on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) must be submitted to the University before admission will be granted. Please see the University's Admission Requirements page.

8. What is a degree plan? Where do I get one?
Your degree plan is a list of all the courses you agree to complete in order to satisfy the requirements for your degree.
You can find degree plan forms in the Undergraduate Studies office or Graduate Studies Office for the College of Education in Farish Hall. There is also a sample degree plan in the Undergraduate and Graduate Studies Handbook.
Early into your career as a student, you will want to fill in a sample degree plan in accordance with University requirements for your degree, which you should then bring to a meeting with your advisor. At this point, your advisor will review your plan and help you make any needed changes to your plan.
You must file your degree plan with the University in accordance with the University deadline.
