Welcome to the College of Education at the University of Houston

PROGRAM
Students who fill out the “REQUEST TO WITHHOLD OR RELEASE PUBLIC INFORMATION” form and indicate that public information NOT be released must specify ON THE “GRADUATION APPLICATION” form that they DO want their name to be included in the published commencement programs. Otherwise the university will not publish their graduation information.

Processional will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Graduating students should arrive at the Athletics and Alumni Center by 7:45am.

Please enter through the front doors of the Athletic/Alumni Center on Cullen Blvd. The processional will form on the Basketball court in Yeoman Field House.
Your family and friends should proceed directly to Hofheinz Pavilion.

LINE UP
Line up with other students for the same degree according to the departmental signs which will be posted.
You will be lined up alphabetically behind the sign for your degree within department (CUIN, ELCS, EPSY or HHP).
You will be given a card with your name, degree, and any honors on it.
Do not get out of line once the processional begins - names will be called out in the order in which cards are collected.

DO NOT CHANGE PLACES AFTER THE CARDS ARE COLLECTED. YOUR NAME WILL BE CALLED IN THE ORDER YOU TURNED IN YOUR CARD.

NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED TO THE LINE AFTER THE MUSIC STARTS-NO EXCEPTIONS.

SEATING IN HOFHEINZ
Commencement workers will direct candidates to seating area. (Doctoral candidates, please read separate instructions regarding "hooding" process).Fill in each row before beginning a new row. Sit down whenever your row has filled.

YOUR WALK ACROSS THE STAGE
Directly before your degrees are to be awarded, you will be told to stand and proceed in line to the stage.

When the person in front of you begins to walk across the stage and after his/her name is called, move to the tape at the middle of the ramp and remain there until your name is called. (Doctoral candidates, note difference in instructions for hooding process).

Once your name is called, walk across the stage to Dr. Wimpelberg. He will hand you a letter and shake your hand.

Proceed off the stage, walking around to the back of the chairs and back down the center aisle to your seat. Please do not leave the floor before the ceremony is complete.

RECESSIONAL
There will be a formal recessional. Wait for Dr. Wimpelberg's dismissal and then follow the person in front of you. The ceremonies should be finished by approximately 11:30am.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOCTORAL CANDIDATES
Directly before Doctorates are announced, you will be told to stand and proceed, in line, to the stage.

When the person in front of you begins to walk up the ramp, go to the tape at the middle of the ramp, get ready to move onto the stage.

When the person in front of you begins to walk across the stage as his/her name is called, move to the tape at the middle of the ramp.

Once your name is called, walk with your dissertation chair to Executive Associate Dean McPherson, who will be standing on the right side of the stage.

Turn your back to your dissertation chair, removing your cap at this time.

Your dissertation chair will place your hood over your head. Put your cap back on and turn around to face your dissertation chair, shake his/her hand.

Shake hands with Dr. McPherson.

Walk to left side of the stage to Dr. Wimpelberg. He will hand you a "diploma". Take the "diploma" with your left hand and shake hands with Dr. Wimpelberg with your right hand.

Leave stage. Go back to your seat. Please do not leave the floor before the ceremony is complete.

There will be a formal recessional. Wait for Dr. Wimpelberg's dismissal and then follow the person in front of you. The ceremony should be finished by approximately 11:30am.
