Master of Education Degree (M.Ed.) in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Science Education

  • The University of Houston M.Ed. prorgam is designed to prepare individuals for a rigorous and rewarding career in science education. Students will update their knowledge of learning theories, the nature of science and inquiry, and the costs and benefits of a technology-based society. In order to deal with the diversity of students and complexities of schools, a concentrated plan of course work and professional activity must be undertaken. This will require, but is not limited to, the following: participating in local and state science education professional organizations, designing and implementing exemplary science units that result in student understanding, managing activity-oriented, student-engaged science classrooms, and constructing a portfolio that demonstrates achievement of program objectives.

Doctor of Education Degree (Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Science Education

  • The purpose of the program is to prepare outstanding leaders in Science Education who can help educators to become scholars, curriculum developers, science teacher educators, supervisors of science, and educational specialists in museums, aquaria, zoos, etc. These are individuals who are highly motivated to move the nation toward a citizenry that is scientifically literate. Those who aspire to earn a doctorate must complete a dissertation study that adds significantly to a line of research in Science Education, and that is worthy of publication in a nationally recognized refereed journal in the field.
