Human Development & Family Studies
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) provides a broadly based study of the intellectual, emotional, social, and moral development of individuals and families. Courses focus on different periods of lifespan, parent education, the delivery of human services, early childhood education, and research concepts. Students majoring in HDFS are qualified for employment in the social sciences, teaching, and management. Many HDFS students go on to graduate school in the fields of Social Work, Psychology, Education, Medicine, and Law.
Practitioners build upon a thorough understanding of psychology, sociology, communications, and education. HDFS graduates have a variety of opportunities available to them. With proper certifications or minors, graduates are qualified for immediate employment, including:

- Elementary School Teachers
- Juvenile and Adult Probation Officers
- Human Services Administrators
