The Comprehensive Examination is required so that students can demonstrate to the faculty an understanding of the history and professional issues in Counseling Psychology. In addition, students are expected to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the application of theory and research in a specialized area of psychology. A strong knowledge base and proficiency in these areas is essential for the professional development of counseling psychology students. |
The Comprehensive Examination ("comps") consists of three, three-hour writing periods. A computer-based version of the exam is also available. The exam is offered twice a year, in the Fall and Spring semesters. Dates and deadlines are available in the Office of Student Services Rm 112 FH. All doctoral students must take the exam. These are the requirements for taking the exam: |

Students are notified in writing of approval to take the exam. The EPSY Examination Committee also notifies students in writing indicating the room in which the exam is administered. Students should contact their advisors if they do not receive these letters within two weeks of the exam date. (See pgs.15-18 in the Handbook)
