Faculty Involvement in Candidacy

The candidacy paper should be directed by a member of the Counseling Psychology faculty. The counseling psychology faculty member who directs the research paper becomes the research advisor. If the research area of a student is not matched by members of the counseling psychology faculty, the student should consult with the Director of Training or the academic advisor to identify an outside person to direct or co-direct the candidacy paper with a member of the counseling psychology faculty. (See pg. 13 in the Handbook)

The candidacy committee should consist of three members, preferably chaired or co-chaired by a member of the counseling psychology faculty. The candidacy committee should include a designated methodologist. A Proposal for Candidacy Paper (See Appendix G in the Handbook) must be signed by committee members and the Department Chair.
