PREDOCTORAL INTERNSHIP

We are pleased to announce that five of six students who applied for highly competitive internships accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) during the last two years were successful in obtaining internships in APA accredited sites in Texas and California.

The University of Houston School Psychology Program regards the predoctoral internship as the final, "capstone" field experience that builds on prior practica, experience, and coursework, allowing increased competency development and autonomy in the provision of comprehensive psychological services under supervision.  The internship is not merely "on-the-job training."  It is an organized program of training designed to provide you with a sequence of experiences that will enhance professional attitudes and competencies, responsibility, communication skills, critical judgment, and technical skills.

All students will be required to complete a one year, full-time, predoctoral internship to obtain the Ph.D. in School Psychology.  Completion of this predoctoral internship will minimally meet the internship requirements of the Council of Directors of School Psychology Programs (CDSPP) and the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (TSBEP).  Predoctoral internships may take place within the Houston area, or anywhere else in the country.

The Advanced Practicum experiences are designed to increase the attractiveness of our students for highly competitive internships accredited by the APA, and listed by the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC).  All interns are strongly encouraged to enter the APPIC-sponsored match program for predoctoral psychology internships.
