A Note From the Dean

Dean Wimpelberg

Greetings!
We are so happy to transmit our latest newsletter to you, as we wish you a happy early fall!

You'll find that this issue has lots of incredible information.

Notice, if you will, how these stories present the many sides of Your College of Education.

You'll notice a certain "STEM" theme in some of the stories.  For the uninitiated, "STEM" stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.  This is no accident since we are deeply involved in projects that emphasis mathematics and science teacher preparation and inservice development.

There's also a certain flavor of the "P-16' notion - the education pipeline that runs from cradle to careers.  Again, no surprise.  A lot of what we and our alums are engaged in relates to preparing kids for success through high school and readiness for college and career afterward.

You'll also find that the human sciences are a major part of our identity.  Name your constituency -- faculty, students, alumni - many of them are preparing for work and many of them are applying their UH degrees in non-school settings like non-profit organizations, sports fitness centers, medical and research facilities.

So, as we approach the fall of 2009, we are happy to recognize the recent high points in people's lives inside the College of Education and outside it.  And we are pleased to display the wide diversity of activity that comprises Your College of Education.

Enjoy!

And best wishes for the approaching fall season.

Bob Wimpelberg
Dean of the College and Elizabeth D. Rockwell Chair
