Flamingos Rule!

The Flamingo Parade to Take Flight at Galveston Conference

You’ve seen the cows, now come see the flamingos! TAEA and the Flamingo Chairman
Queen, Mel Basham, are planning a flock of artistic painted flamingos to greet conference
goers in Galveston. TAEA members- not satisfied with the shocking pink plastic flamingos
that normally grace the front yards of some of the swankiest of trailer parks are challenged
to paint their own Flamingo Masterpieces that will be displayed at the conference and then
auctioned off for the Scholarship Fund in a silent auction at the end of the convention.

Here’s how to participate! Contact the Flamingo Queen, Mel Basham at
mbasham@aldine.k12.tx.us and let her know that you want to fly the friendly skies of
flamingos. Individual artists, art clubs, art teachers, National Honor Societies -
everyone is invited to participate. Next, purchase a set of plastic yard flamingos at
Wal-Mart, Garden Ridge Pottery, or any other fine garden shop. A set of two flamingos
cost $10. Paint and/or decorate them using the style of a famous artist or period of art.
The sky’s the limit! Seal with Crystal Clear spray and attach a tag with the school name,
address, phone, and artist’s name. Bring them to Galveston when you come for
conference. We will have a Flamingo Roost for them when you arrive. Don’t be left out!Remember, birds of a feather flock together!
