I’m BACK!

My appointment has come with a heavy consciousness. We were all looking forward to Jonnie Gilliam becoming the VP of Membership after working so hard for two years as VP Elect. Her experience, friendly face, and her extreme efficiency of acquiring door prizes for Rep and Division meetings will be sorely missed. We wish her the best with her move to California. However, the new VP Elect, Roberta Sajda and myself will try our best to fill her shoes. Roberta and I will continue to build upon the past years successes and strive to improve the ongoing membership drive.

Membership can be grateful for the wonderful communication that has occurred in the past few years. High attendance from our Area Representatives and Division Chairs has excelled. They are required to attend Council at Large for the Spring Conference in Austin during YAM weekend and at the Fall Conference. They have had 100% participation and their efforts have paid out for our association. Reps and Chairs have been there for all of you at the Fall conferences with their signs after the general sessions to let you know what exciting things they have to share with you at the early morning meetings. (The door prizes were fantastic!)

All of you will hear from your area reps sooner or later for connections to Mini-conferences, workshops, and professional development opportunities. One thing we have discussed was to try cross area/region lines for greater membership participation.

Your division chairs will be keeping constant contact with current issues of your specific level of teaching. They will share with you ideas for lesson plans as well as you all bringing your successes to share with them.

Other successes that membership has applauded are the badges for the Council At Large members to wear. By identifying our leaders to the general membership we create an interest for aspiring the involvement with the political body of our association, Council at Large. These are open meetings for any member to attend. Please feel free to come by on that Thursday before the Conference each year or at the Spring conference Council meeting in Austin.  We need new innovative members that want to contribute to the growth of our association!

           WE NEED YOUR LOCAL ASSOCIATION’S UPDATE!

The biggest goal for the next two years, even in a shorter length of time, is to update the Local Association’s officer list. We have had a poor attendance from our Local Association during Council in the past few years. Why is this? LET ME KNOW! Roberta and myself will strive for this connection to improve. So please help us. I will be sending a letter to each of the Supervisors in your areas for assistance.
