Bob Dundas was vice president of Foley's Department Store. Dundas kept a detailed diary of the protests and of white reaction. He was haunted by his memory of the Camp Logan riots of August 1917 when black soldiers rioted against police brutality. After the boycott of the downtown Foley's, Dundas developed a plan with Hobart Taylor and John T. Jones that convinced all the downtown stores to desegregate at the same time. He guaranteed the lunch counter operators that there would be no publicity and then worked to create the first of three media "blackouts" during Houston's desegregation.
