Biography:

Dave A. Louis, Ph.D. is a professor of higher education at the University of Houston’s College of Education. He uses counter-storytelling as the core of his research agenda that centers on the voices, authenticity, and meaningfulness of the Black experience in postcolonial environments. His research addresses the experiences of minoritized, marginalized, and underrepresented populations within higher education with a particular focus of individuals of the African Diaspora (including Afro Caribbean populations).  He also conducts research on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).


He was the 2020 recipient of the Carlos J. Vallejo Memorial Award for Scholarship awarded by the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Multicultural/Multiethnic SIG, 2020 Fulbright Awardee (Germany), Chair for the Caribbean & African Studies in Education SIG #86 in AERA (2023-2025), a 50 in 5 Scholar at the University of Houston, the President’s Excellence in Diversity & Equity Award at Texas Tech University in 2015, and Texas A&M University's College of Education & Human Development Outstanding Alumni Award in 2021. He was also an Oprah Winfrey Scholar at Morehouse College.
